Course Description

This Apprenticeship is perfect if you’re in a team leading position and want to progress your career. It is suitable for people who are entering a management role, or who have the ability and the opportunity to demonstrate recognisable management and leadership skills.

This Apprenticeship is perfect if you’re in a team leading position and want to progress your career. It is suitable for people who are entering a management role, or who have the ability and the opportunity to demonstrate recognisable management and leadership skills, for example, providing leadership for a team, encouraging innovation, allocating and checking work. This qualification recognises the skills and competences of candidates in the workplace and provides individuals with the opportunity to demonstrate the competences needed for a career as a team leader. Pitched at intermediate level and applicable to any industry, it covers all aspects of team leading including managing meetings, setting objectives and making effective decisions.

The program will build upon your current role, whatever industry you work in. It will also develop your leadership skills. You’ll learn how to manage personal development, develop your working relationships with colleagues, and communicate information and knowledge.

Your personal assessor will visit you at work to review your progress and make sure you are on target to achieve your qualifications.

Training for this Apprenticeship is based around a combination of mandatory and optional modules. We’ll help you put together the right mix of modules to fit the job you do and the way you want to develop your career.
Mandatory:

  1. Manage personal development
  2. Develop working relationships with colleagues
  3. Communicate information and knowledge

Optional:

  • Set objectives and provide support for team members
  • Plan, allocate and monitor work of a team
  • Manage or support equality of opportunity, diversity and inclusion in your area of responsibility
  • Support team members in identifying, developing and implementing new ideas
  • Manage conflict in a team
  • Lead and manage meetings
  • Participate in meetings
  • Make effective decisions

There are no formal academic entry requirements or any prior qualification to do this course. You will undertake an initial assessment to determine the appropriate NVQ optional units and to ensure that they can achieve all elements of the apprenticeshipThe only requirements are as follows:

  • Must be aged 18
  • Be a UK resident for 3 years plus or
  • An EU national and EEA resident for 3 years plus or

Also In order to do an apprenticeship you must have an employer to support you. This qualification is designed for people who’re currently employed in a team leading or management role. You’ll need to lead a team of at least two colleagues, and already be working in a suitable role.


  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Team Leading
  • Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading Principles
  • Level 1 Functional Skills


The majority of the programme is assessed in the workplace. There will be a mixture of on and off-the-job training. You will also need to gather evidence to demonstrate your competence. You will be allocated a named assessor who will guide and support you throughout your Apprenticeship programme.


With additional training, intermediate apprentices may be able to progress to roles including middle and senior manager, department manager, head of department, or a wide range of managerial roles within business.


While working towards your Apprenticeship, you will also attend the College to complete an industry-recognised ILM qualification.


12-24 Months
